The year that was 2017 brought us wonderful memories. As I am writing this, I am wondering how in the world we are suddenly in the last two days of it. It is cliche’ to say this but it really seemed just yesterday when we rang in 2017. It was a good year (it still is as technically, we are still in the year as I write this), not very eventful but we had our share of wonderful travels and new experiences.
The first quarter of 2017, the first week of April to be exact, took us to the sunny islands of The Canaries. It was our first time and could not believe that somewhere that is only four hours flight from the UK is a gem. A place where the sun is warm all year round. I have to say it was one of the best holidays we have ever had. It was a holiday in the real sense of the word. Since Fuerteventura is an island, there really were no famous tourist spots to see thus we spent all our days biking along the promenade overlooking the ocean, lazing and swimming in the pool and wondering which restaurant to eat next. It really was the ideal island life getaway.
We stayed at Barcelo Royal Level Hotel which I wrote about here
For my detailed travel guide to Fuerteventura, you can read about it here.
We also celebrated our fifteenth wedding anniversary this year and what better way to celebrate it than to stay at the tallest building in the United Kingdom, The Shard. The Shangri-la Hotel at The Shard is a haven in the clouds. Of all the hotels that we have stayed in, this was the most luxurious with no detail spared. The attention to detail is unparalleled.
Our stay at The Shangri-la Hotel at The Shard was by far our best hotel stay. Read more about this wonderful experience of ours here.
The Summer holidays saw us hopping on a plane and trains to Florence, Rome and to a magical place called Cinque Terre.
As you all know by now, we are Italians at heart. Italy is our most visited place here in Europe. This was our third time and again, we came, we saw, we ate a lot of Gelato (and pasta and pizza, of course!)
For the coming 2018, we do not know where our itchy feet will take us but trust me, we do have a lot on our travel wish list and know that we are not short of places to visit.
