I love a good get together with friends and my special day is the best excuse to invite my friends over for my birthday dinner at home. It would be good to have a regular catch up but with us having busy careers and family lives, meeting up always gets left in the back seat.
One of the main things that excite me whenever I have guests at home for a special dinner is setting up the table. I decide on a color scheme a few weeks before the day. From the color scheme I decide which flowers, placemats and table napkins to use. I used paper table napkins (sacrilege, I know) this time as the design just ties everything up.
The colors I went for were pink, white and gold. So I ended up getting pink flowers with gold and white plates and table napkins. I placed a lot of candles to add drama which really did the trick. This tablescape has been my best so far.
Now, the best part- the food. I didn’t want the hubby and myself to get stressed with cooking this time and decided on ordering the food. With all the excitement, I forgot to take photos of the dishes that we had delivered. We had beef casserole (beef caldereta), noodles (pansit), fried chicken and sweet and sour fish fillet. They were all delicious.
What is a party without cake? According to Julia Childs, it is just a meeting. It was not a meeting, so I had a dessert table with one of my favourite chocolate cakes from one of my favourite chocolate brands, Thorntons and some little square egg free cakes that were as light as clouds.
The presents are the other aspect that I look forward to. It does not have to be elaborate. I love little presents that I can actually use on a daily basis wherein a lot of thought was put into choosing it. Of course, a bunch of flowers is a no brainer.
I received some lovely flowers and this one from Marks and Spencer is one of them. M&S does flowers so well. All together it was a lovely birthday spent with the people close to my heart.
