Stop dreaming of Provence, at least for now, as right at our doorstep is one of the most beautiful Lavender fields in England, right at the heart of Hertfordshire, Hitchin Lavender Fields. Located 2 miles of Hitchin in Ickleford, around 25 miles of Lavender rows is yours to enjoy and walk through whilst picking your own fresh flowers.
I have long been wanting to visit the South of France with a trip to Provence thrown in. There is so much to see and do in the South of France though and not just the Lavender Fields so I want to do it properly. By properly, I mean, plan it extensively with visits to all the wonderful places that Provence and Côte d’ Azur has to offer. So for now, Hitchin Lavender Field, it is.
We visited on a weekday, Friday to be exact when school finished early. I have been dreaming of walking through a vast Lavender field sans people around and I got exactly that. Thus the beautiful photos with only us and the expanse of Lavender around us.
Before we went to the field, we dropped by the rustic shop and cafe showcasing their wonderful products and homemade cakes. This is where I had the most decadent Gluten free banana and chocolate cake. I did not even know a banana and chocolate cake exists. I know one of the other but not as one. I recommend dropping by before heading to the field and also say hello to the beautiful horses in the stables.
While the UK is having a few days of proper Summer, a visit is worth it before the sun decides to disappear again. Make the most of the dry and warm days while it lasts. Who knows when Mr Sun is going to show up again and by then, before you know it, it will be Autumn.
